Our Story
Toronto’s Korean kitchen, since 2001.
The first Owl of Minerva opened in downtown Toronto on August 8, 2001. The name comes from Hegel: “the owl of minerva first takes flight with twilight closing in. ” Twenty-five years later, the owl with the graduation hat has flown to 12 locations across the GTA, and the brand has been licensed in South Korea and China since 2010.
The main branch at 5324 Yonge St— Yonge & Finch — is where it all comes back to. The recipes are the same family Korean comfort food that opened the original room: gamjatang that simmers for hours, kimchi-jjigae aged the way it should be, dolsot bibimbap with the crisp rice-bottom you can hear.
Only restaurants displaying the female owl wearing a graduation hat are licensed to use the Owl of Minerva name.
